How many of us rock our fitness and other health goals up to the holidays and then completely fall apart? One slip up leads to another, and then another. It’s easy to want to completely throw in the towel and vow to start fresh again in the New Year. I’m determined that it won’t be me this year! If you know the right things to do to keep the holiday bulge away, you’ll set yourself up for starting the New Year off on the right foot.
Here are three tips to keep you on track this holiday season.
1. Eat dessert
Yes, you read that right. Eat dessert. Now I’m not suggesting you fill your plate with all the dessert you can possibly fit. If you eat a little of your favorites, you won’t feel deprived and you’ll be less likely to overeat. Depriving yourself will only make you want it more. Eventually you’ll cave and end up eating more than if you just had a little to begin with.
2. Get your sleep
I know this is hard, especially this time of year. Trust me on this one though. If you stay on your regular sleep schedule, your brain will work with you rather than against you when you’re trying to make healthy choices. Getting good sleep will help you with number 3 too!
3. Keep up with your exercise routine
Again, I know this is hard during the holidays. Kids are out of school, family is in town, you’re off your regular work schedule. Getting in your exercise will keep you focused on being kind to your body. If you’re being kind to your body, you’ll put healthy food into it to keep it fueled and nourished. If you can’t get in your regular exercise routine, any movement you do will be a step in the right direction!
Staying on track during the holidays doesn’t have to be complicated! Try being consistent with these three tips and you’ll be heading in the right direction!
